Why Unplugging is the Ultimate Form of Self-Care

Let's face it…

we're all a little too glued to our devices.

We check our phones as soon as we get out of bed, check social media at breakfast, and spend the most of the day in front of computers. Even our free time is spent binge-watching Netflix shows or scrolling through TikTok. It's no surprise that our brains are fried and our eyes are constantly strained. That's where a digital detox is beautiful.

"But wait, how will I survive without my phone for an entire day?" Let me tell you, it's not as frightening as it sounds. In fact, it can be extremely liberating. Here are some of the benefits of unplugging and taking a digital detox:

Improved Sleep

Let's start with the most obvious. The blue light emitted by screens disrupts our circadian rhythm, making it difficult to sleep at night. Unplugging and avoiding screens will improve the quality of your sleep, leaving you feeling more rested and refreshed in the morning. Furthermore, you won't wake up with a stiff neck from sleeping with your phone in your hand.

Increased Productivity

You may believe that being connected 24 hours a day makes you more productive, but this is not the case. Constantly checking your phone and emails takes your attention away from the task at hand and can reduce your productivity. You'll have fewer distractions and be able to focus on the task at hand if you take a break and unplug.

Better Relationships

When was the last time you talked to someone without checking your phone? A digital detox can assist you in being more present and engaged in your relationships. Unplugging allows you to connect with the people around you in a more meaningful way, whether it's having a deep conversation with your partner or playing board games with your kids.

Enhanced Creativity

Staring at screens all day can sap creativity. You'll have more mental space to let your mind wander and come up with new ideas if you take a break and unplug. You might find yourself writing a poem, painting a picture, or brainstorming new ideas for your work.

Stress Reduction

Let's be honest: social media can be a major source of anxiety. Seeing all of the perfectly curated lives and #blessed moments can make us feel inadequate. You'll be able to focus on your own life and what makes you happy if you go on a digital detox and avoid social media. You'll be less stressed and happier with your own path.

A digital detox can have numerous, life-changing benefits. Don't be afraid to unplug and disconnect from screens. Your brain (and eyes) will be grateful.
